Opened in December, 19th, 1941, the Coliseu is the biggest playhouse in the north region of the country, with 3000 seats. It has been welcoming great show names, from Bob Dylan, Caetano Veloso, Amália Rodrigues, to the big orchestras, such as the Munich Band, Paris Band and to the great opera singers such as José Carreras and Monserrat. It presents several cultural events, from which we point out the musical and dancing shows.

This museum, dating from 1916, began to function on the premises of the Cathedral, and only in 1938 it moved to the Paço dos Três Escalões. Of the many pieces on display, we highlight paintings by Grão Vasco, from the Cathedral, the Episcopal Palace of Fontelo and churches and convents in the Beira region, as well as paintings by different contemporary artists. Furniture, sculptures, jewellery, Portuguese faience, textiles, oriental and archeology porcelain are also on display.

The “Industrial Heritage Circuits of São João da Madeira” allow visitors to see firsthand the restoration of the region's industrial heritage. For example, Viarco, the only operating pencil factory in the country, Helsar and Everest, from the footwear sector, Cortadoria Nacional de Pelo and Fepsa, from the hat industry, and Heliotêxtil, a trimmings factory, are some of the participating companies. The Welcome Center is located in the Torre da Oliva building.

The municipal museum of archeology includes the monographic nucleus of the necropolis of Carenque, where it is possible to observe 3 artificial caves dating from the end of the 4th millennium BC, discovered in 1932. The necropolis of Carenque, National Monument, is a permanent exhibition on the Neolithic/ Chalcolithic of the region surrounding the caves.
