Adega Cooperativa da Lourinhã

The "Lourinhã" DOC Brandy is produced in the only demarcated region for brandy in Portugal: the Demarcated Region of Wine Brandies in Portugal. The recommended grape varieties are Alicante, Alvadurão, Broal Espinho, Marquinhas, Malvásia Rei (Seminário), and Tália, and the red Cabinda. Once the grapes are harvested and crushed, the wines to be distilled are produced in wineries registered with the CVRL (National Council of Rural Development). The maximum alcohol content by natural volume cannot exceed 10%, without the addition of artificial preservatives. Distillation can be carried out using a continuous system in a copper column, or a discontinuous system in a copper still, with an alcohol content not exceeding 78% in the former and 72% in the latter. Finally, aging takes place in oak and chestnut barrels with a capacity of up to 800 liters, for a minimum of seven years.
