Ponte de Lima

Considered the oldest town in Portugal, its origin is controversial, but the presence of the Romans in the region is proven, as we can see by the imposing Roman bridge over the Lima River, which gives the village its name, and is considered one of its main ex-libris. With a vast architectural and cultural heritage, this picturesque town still maintains traditions and customs that give it a characteristic charm, such as the mythical “Vaca das Cordas” or the famous “Feiras Novas”, which close the annual cycle of Minho pilgrimages and bring together, in the streets, groups of musicians and folklore singers and many thousands of people, for whom the night ends at dawn. Enjoy its river beaches, in summer, and taste the fabulous local cuisine, such as the famous Arroz de Sarrabulho (rice with blood) or Arroz de Lampreia (lamprey rice).
