The village, with origins in an old hillfort occupied by the Romans, seen from afar is an authentic fortress, surrounded by a wall and two turrets at the entrance. However, Castelo Mendo is, nowadays, practically doomed to abandonment. Its population, which barely exceeds one hundred and a half inhabitants, is dedicated to livestock and agriculture. However, if today the village's location (800 meters above sea level) is an obstacle to growth, in the past this would have been the crucial factor in its development and guarantee of the defense of the lands on the left bank of the Coa River. …

After Lagos, Maria do Mar restaurant-Preserved and tasting, also opened in Portimão. In Maria do Mar are sold canned tuna, sardines, black scabbardfish, among other fish, which make very colorful spaces, a showcase of Portugal canning. Can and should try the snacks that are prepared from the existing cans such as sardine tiborna (€2,75, with glass of wine included).

It is believed that the tower and the church were constructed on the 13th century. The church with longitudinal plan was reconstructed by the end on the 17th century. On the tower it stands out the door stonework, the niche, the round opening and the bell tower which is an older construction. On the church it stands out the pulpit settled in volute corbels and for the vault with stylized vegan motifs.

An easy pedestrian trail that is 11 km long and lasts about four and a half hours. One gets acuqianted with some of the council's marvels, namely the City Fortress and the village of Cossourado. The trail is thus named because it passes by several landmarks that used to indicate the roman miles of the military route.
