Housed in the Church of Santa Maria since 1987, the museum houses pieces donated or donated by the local population. Carlota Joaquina was incarcerated here after refusing to swear loyalty to the 1822 Constitution. Presently it has the São José College belonging to the Portuguese Dominican Sisters.

The pillory construction was ordered by Dom Manuel after the grant of the charter of Leitura Nova in 1521. Similar to other royal works of this time, here are also represented the arms of this monarch, armillary sphere and an iron Christ cross. After a troubled way, the pillory was rebuilt in the XX century accordingly to the original model.
