Ponte do Arco

  • heritage

Rua do Arco
4635-165, Folhada

Marco de Canaveses

Located in a particularly important area in the social context of Roman and medieval settlement, the Ponte do Arco, over the Ovelha River, appears to be a prime example of a medieval crossing. The size of the span, the presence of cut-water channels, and the stonework itself highlight the importance of the engineering project in crossing this unpredictable and difficult watercourse, making the Ponte do Arco a classic example of the medieval bridge model.

Capela da Senhora da Livração de Fandinhães

  • heritage

Rua da Nossa Senhora da Livração

The crevices and capitals reflect a design also adopted in the churches of Cabeça Santa, Águas Santas, and Cedofeita. The nave of the Church of São Martinho, in ruins, was demolished in 1873, and its stone was reused in the expansion of the current parish church of São Clemente.

Igreja de Santa Maria de Sobretâmega

  • heritage

Rua da Igreja
4635-367, Sobretâmega

Marco de Canaveses

The Church of Santa Maria de Sobretâmega is a late medieval building that, however, retains a Romanesque flavor unique to this region. The location of this church, which replaced the parish church of the former parish of São Pedro de Canaveses, was an initiative of Queen Mafalda, founder of the inn and the bridge of Canaveses. In fact, it was the construction of the bridge itself that prompted the church's new location.
