Discovered in 1947, these are the largest caves in Portugal. They have a gallery/room/shaft configuration and their formation is due to erosion and tectonic changes. They feature underground lakes and rooms with beautiful limestone formations. They have two elevators and are 110 meters deep. Here lies the Great Lagoon, formed by the Rio Negro, an underground watercourse that, in winter, forms the Mira de Aire Lagoon. In 2010 it was classified as one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Portugal.

Folgosinho, located on the north slope of Serra da Estrela, at an altitude of 930 metres, was the county seat until 1836. It is known for having been mentioned in the "Lusíadas", due to Viriato who, according to legend, was born here. It has a rich cultural heritage, highlighting the archaeological site of Outeiro, the medieval walls, the pillory and the church. The population dedicates itself, in its majority, to the pastoralism, being produced in this region the famous cheese of Serra da Estrela.

A small village located on the slopes of Cabeço de Monsanto, at an altitude of 758 meters, known as "the most Portuguese village in Portugal." Wild nature and human construction combine in a harmonious combination, resembling, from a distance, a stone fortress. The houses are "invaded" by enormous granite boulders that serve as floors, walls, and ceilings. A settlement of military origins, it was here that, according to legend, Viriato withstood a seven-year siege. Monsanto Castle was recaptured from the Arabs.
