The construction of this building started in 1520 and lasted until the end of the century. The project is due to John Lee, the younger. Is one of the most interesting works of civil architecture of the time. The façade, facing the square, is formed by two balconies alpendradas with columns that are based on carved lavishly arched colonnades of arches of volta redonda. This church preserves, though very fragmented, important remains of mural painting from the 16th and 17th centuries.

Inside are an altarpiece of João de Rouen, the talha, the paintings of the caissons and the two painted canvas of lateral cloths, representative of the visitation and da Nossa Senhora da Conceição. In 1810 was the target of attack by the French troops who destroyed the registry's mercy.
