This village owes its name to the existence of large Neolithic caves in the region, linked to various local legends. This House is on the premises of the Junta de Freguesia do Coentral since 2002, since this was the House where he was born, in 1835, d. Manuel Agostinho Barreto, Bishop of Funchal. Here you can find the booty and the whole history of the Morris dancers of Neveiros Coentral and to its founder, Herlander Machado, in 1964, and various tributes paid to castanheirenses, their customs and to their homes.
