The Casa do Caseiro is situated about 15 minutes away from Funchal, near the place where the famous descending of the "Carros de Cestos" (basket cars) takes place. It is a typical Madeira house, with two guest houses, one with more than 100 years and another built recently.

Placed at the former Real Fábrica dos Tecidos de Seda, in a building from the XVIII century, remodelled and adapted to shelter a museum and a documentation and investigation centre, the foundation, opened in November 1994, has as main purpose the divulging and study the works of the painters Arpad Szenes e Vieira da Silva.

This foundation, that owes its name to the professor and surgeon Bissaya Barreto, relates to a wide rang of subjects, namely culture (House Museum Bissaya Barreto, Portugal dos Pequeninos and Gallery Joaquina Barreto Rosa), education (Superior Institute Bissaya Barreto), formation (Centre of Studies and Formation) and social assistance.

Construída durante os séculos XVII e XVIII, apresenta um estilo barroco, com três naves e um altar-mor em talha dourada. Destaque, na capela do Santíssimo Sacramento, para o painel de azulejos representando o Agnus Dei.

Former hospital of simple rectangular plan with two floors, built in the early 20th century by Dr Joaquim Borges, having adopted the name of his wife. It housed after a religious congregation and, in 1982, he settled here for a kindergarten and the casa do povo de Vila Nova de Tazém.

It is a 19th century sugar cane mill, classified as a Property of Local Cultural Value. Belonging to Companhia de Engenhos do Norte, which still manufactures cane spirits there, it is the only sugar mill operating according to the original 19th century technology, constituting a museum center of great heritage importance.

This street, the more medieval, was one of the first to be opened in Guimaraes, to make the connection between the convent founded by Mumadona and the Castle. Of great architectural value, scroll through it we can appreciate the convent of Santa Clara, the Arc's House, the Casa dos Peixotos region and the Gothic House of Valadares, among others.

The Salpoente restaurant was reborn in February 2013 and, today, it is strongly recommended. Is already a bet wins and goals defined by the new leadership are ambitious: "we want to be the best cod restaurant in Portugal". The kitchen leads the young chef Duarte Eira which, in 2011, was the big winner of the contest "“Revolta do Bacalhau”.
