This parish was born from the recent Administrative Division of the Municipality of Ferreira do Alentejo, in 1988. Its settlement took place in very early times, perhaps in the Miocene period, according to some studies carried out by the City Council. The Romans left in this area evident marks of the new civilization that they transported to the Iberian Peninsula, and which, in the case of Canhestros, took place at a very late period. Fountain with double dome-shaped alpendrada, supported by three marble columns and ornamented by volutes, vases and frown. Evidence-if two circular medallions with the coats of arms of the Dukes of Bragança and Vila.

Small garden-like square, with several commercial establishments around it. At the centre rises a statue paying homage to Joaquim António de Aguiar.

Bust of Catarina Eufémia set on top of a stone pedestal with about 2 metres height. It was built in 1976 paying homage to Baleizão people.

A large 20th century theatre, planned by Raúl Lino. Constructed as a replacement for the Teatro Montemorense, destroyed by a fire in 1922, it is used for cinema sessions, theatre and music concerts.

Anta composed of burial chamber with polygonal plant and hallway with quadrangular oblonga. The monument is really destroyed, missing the lid which is fragmented in the vicinity. Is classified as a national monument.

Of the old church, which was destroyed during the 1755 earthquake, only this bell tower remains, restored in 1766, and which can now be seen, isolated, in the town's cemetery.
