After the earthquake, the Marquês de Pombal promoted the opening of taverns, being the Martinho da Arcada the oldest (1782). Located in one of the arcades of the Comércio Square, the interior of the café gives a close image to what might have been the outline of the establishments of that period. Nowadays, there are poetry and musical events in the café that was Fernando Pessoa’s favourite.

It encompasses Mouzinho de Albuquerque Street, Santa Columba Street, Avenida da República Street, General Leão Street, João de Deus Street, and the street that runs down to the fire station on Avenida Sá Carneiro. This interesting cluster, comprised of narrow, rural streets and stately homes, is well worth a close look.

It is one of the landmarks of the town of Vale da Pinta and, according to legend, King Afonso Henriques drank water there before the Battle of Ourique. The name of the well, believed to have been built in the 9th century, also comes from that time, as it is thought that the men who accompanied the first king of Portugal saw an image of Saint Bartholomew there.

This 14th century construction was enlarged afterwards. It possesses a closed yard with Gothic arcade. On the yard corner there is a Renaissance pavilion with a small dome. The classification a Building of Public Interest includes the Palace, a vaulted chapel, two decorative fountains, an obelisk raised for the King D. João VI and Senhor da Serra chapel existing on the garden.

Framed in the magnificent and unique surrounding landscape of the Bay of São Martinho do Porto, in this park you can enjoy the beautiful local beaches. Relax while doing a bike ride or even on foot. Highlight is the miradouro da bandeira, one of the many attractions that do not fail to exploit.

In the village with the same name, is hidden Praia da Figueira. Although there are plates, automobile access is limited, duly signposted. From a certain point, there is a narrow path to a few meters to the beach. This is flat, without oscillations and very quiet. Looking at the top of the cliff can be seen traces of a 16th-century fortification. Great for sea baths.
