In 1988, the Praia Grande was classified a "Praia Dourada” (meaning golden beach) by the Ministry of the Environment. To highlight the event, a walking trail is proposed to all that visit the beach. The Municipal Museum of Palmela is a set of museum spaces, the most important of which is the Castle Nucleus which, in itself, comprises four zones: Archaeological Space (in situ reading of the history of the fortification), Medieval Occupation and Reconquista, Casa Capelo (history of Palmela and the Order of Santiago) and Military Broadcast Space. In addition to this nucleus, the S. Tiago Visitable Reserve, the Church of Santiago and the Wine and Vine Center are also open to the public — as a permanent exhibition.
