It was in 1990 that the Chamber of Sousel acquired the Collection of images of Christ from the heirs of Venceslau Lobo, a former antiques dealer. This antiquarian collection has around 1500 pieces, mostly crucifixes.

Although it is thought that this town, located on the bank of the River Soure, dates back to pre-Romanesque times, only Roman remains have been found in the region. In the XIV century it was already a very populated town, having been granted a new charter in 1513 by Dom Manuel I.
