It is part of the National Ecological Reserve – National Agricultural Reserve. The salt marsh predominates in this place, with many shorebirds and inhabited by birds characteristic of wetlands.

This location includes a route that crosses areas known as marshes and cultivated land, such as rice fields.

It borders the municipality of Murtosa and has Caniçal as its predominant habitat. The Mallard and the Moorhen are some of the most observed water birds, and as for birds of prey, the most common is the Western Marsh Harrier. Other animals stand out, such as the Common Reed Bunting, the Weasel, the Mediterranean Tree Frog and the Brown Rat.
