The Château de Fraião constituted a significant example of Romanesque fortress, but not adapted in the Gothic era. Currently, only remains of the Castle a granitic suite, which provides magnificent views of the Minho Valley.

The Mountain belongs to the Old Massif to the South of the Tejo and occupies the regions of Grândola and Santiago do Cacém. A dome shaped dam, on the Cávado river, built in 1955 for the production of electricity. The reservoir is one of the loveliest in Portugal, located on the southern borderline of the Gerês National Park. The best panoramic view of the valley and of the reservoir is from the Pedra Bela Belvedere, to the right from the Caldas do Gerês.
