Beginning in 1873, it was considered to be, during a long time, the best Botanic garden in Europe. The space, with 4ha, is quite picturesque with its staircases in wood and ashlar masonry. You can find here varied rare or endangered botanic species. The walk through the garden is made on earth roads sided by leafy trees. The Infante D. Luís Geophysical Institute and the Astronomic Observatory are at the garden’s upper level.

Between Peso da Régua and Pinhão, exit at Covalinhas to reach the top of São Leonardo and its chapel. From this site, known for having inspired Miguel Torga, you can glimpse the Douro Valley. The river, far below, flowing slowly toward its mouth, the rugged slopes and sharp peaks, and the verdant greenery of the nearby vineyards, which try to disguise the prevailing grayness.

It is the second-highest peak on the island of Madeira, with an altitude of 1818 meters. It offers a magnificent view and, when the weather is good, you can see the neighboring island of Porto Santo. It has an inn, a restaurant and a souvenir shop and is one of the most visited peaks on the island due to good access and the trails that connect it to Pico das Torres and Pico Ruivo, which are very well-prepared and signposted.

In this park located at an altitude of 900 meters, you can observe the flora and fauna of the forest originating in Madeira, the Laurissilva Forest, as well as trees from the temperate regions of Europe, Asia and America. In addition to a picnic area and a parking lot, there is the Queimadas shelter house, which maintains the original characteristics of the typical Santana houses with their thatched roofs. It is halfway to Pico Ruivo, the highest point on the island.

A park with 14 há, with lawns and many trees. It has a lake and a brook, two cafes and an area for radical sports with halfpipe and a climbing wall. It has also a tennis club with four courts, a reading garden, a terrace and a picnic area. Here one can also find the Américo Marinho Building, with the Arts Centre, the New Techonogies Centre and the Arts Sector of the Barreiro Town Hall.

This castle is located at the top of Cabeço da Penenciada, approximately 681 meters above sea level, between the Angueira and Maçãs rivers. This small fortress, which once served to defend the Sabor River, today serves as a privileged viewpoint over Trás-os-Montes. Some points can be identified: Miranda do Douto (Northeast), Vimioso and Outeiro (North) and Penas Roias and Mogadouro (Southwest).

Castro dating back to the Bronze age, more exactly from the 7th century BC. This is located in a hilly elevation, on top of which stands a chapel of Oracle to Nossa Senhora da Guia. At the same site were also found archaeological remains denoting the existence of a fortified village. Of the latter, very little can be seen because it was grounded in 1995, during the construction of an access road.

The Almedina Arch was part of the medieval walls, dating back to the 11th century, as indicated by the Arabic-origin toponym meaning "the city". Today it is the entrance to old Coimbra, where one can see a sculpture from the workshop of João de Ruão. The wall has Roman origins, having been expanded several times. It presents characteristics of Roman, Muslim, Romanesque, Gothic and Manueline architecture.

This building is what is left of the very ancient Pintos de Begide Manor, a descendant of Dom Tructezendo Guedes, Lord of the Paiva Lands, where, according to local tradition, he lived with his daughter and his grand-daughter Dona Maria Teresa Taveira, who would be the mother of Saint Anthony. The building is very badly preserved. It can be acceded on foot along an earth path.

House that belonged to Lord Wellington, who installed his headquarters here in the period of the French Invasions, as we can see by the coat of arms where a plaque was placed suggesting his presence. The house consists of 2 distinct parts: the first is characterized by the porch and the columns that support it; the second, with a single floor, becomes symbolic due to the façade, on which the coat of arms, the plaque and the framed door are located.
