São Jorge Island is also known as the "Island of Fajãs" due to the massive presence of these fertile spots, dotted with the occasional white house dotting the landscape. Fajã das Almas, also known as Fajã do Calhau, is another of these rare beauties, well worth a careful visit. With jagged cliffs, like most of the fajãs on São Jorge Island, the residents of Fajã dos Vimes have endured numerous misfortunes. The most serious of all occurred during the 1757 earthquake, which completely destroyed the fajã, which was later rebuilt. Tourists and nature lovers will be thrilled to see the fajã's traditional houses and experience this sometimes tragic harmony between man and nature.

Gouveia is characterized by its traditional neighborhoods, full of history and tradition. We recommend a walk through Bairro do Castelo, considered the birthplace of Gouveia, Bairro da Biqueira, where the Jewish community lived in the 14th century, Bairro do Toural, with its Manueline houses, and Bairro do Outeiro, where you can see the Chapel of São Miguel and its cross.

To learn a little of Amarante, start your walk along the bridge, in the city centre. This bridge, classified as a national monument, worth a visit to admire its Baroque details and to enjoy the beautiful view over the Tâmega River. Continue your spent by the banks of the River, passing by several gardens that the city offers. Finally, pass the historical centre streets, admiring its old houses.

Beginning in the village of Salavessa, filled with typical houses, this route will be taken down the Tagus till you find a pontoon to the water edge you will get to a dam and the bowels of serra de São Miguel. In your company will be the ribeira de Fivelo, where another dam, behind which come. The extent of this ride is 10.6 km and estimated duration of the 3:30 h.

This FADO House is located in the chapel of our Lady of victory, a temple after suffering works of restoration, opened to the public in 2003, with new functions. A beautiful location where the Fado de Coimbra reigns and horrifies listeners, foreign and domestic, since this is a compulsory passage when it comes to the city of students. A village that may date back to the neolithic, Valverde is located between the Dão river, the Coja brook and the Teixugueira brook. These lands are not very fertile due to the altitude and to the harsh winters. Nonetheless, its 200 inhabitants are farmers and cattl raisers. A special note to the mother church, the roman fountain and the ruins of "A Mona", a house with a coat of arms. The craftswork includes wool stockings and cheeses.

This village, with around 200 inhabitants, is located in the Vila Verde parish, where farming and granite extraction stand out. In fact, most of the houses at Perafita are built in granite. A special note to the mother hurch (known as the Sanctuary of Our Lord of Perafita and dating back to the second half of the 18th century) and to the fountain at the base of the churche's belltower. The gastronomy includes sausages and smoked ham.

In this traditional village of the Lands of Barroso, one can still view typical cul covered houses. A special note to the church and the ruins of the beneditin convent of Saint Maria, a national monument, whose existence may date back to the 9th century and still has the romanesque portico of the old church by the convent. Near Pitões das Júnias there is a natural waterfall of rare beauty.

A building of 1907, where Alfredo da Silva lived when he came to Barreiro. Rather large luxury house with large pieces of furniture in wood. The space is perfectly preserved and one should note the many personal objects, such as boots, pyjamas, letters, accountant books, etc. There is also an auditorium (50 people) with a plan of the old CUF, that is used to tell the history of the park.
