Taking the village of Mendo suffered several occupations, Dinis decided to rebuild and enlarge the wall around the village. This castle has suffered a blow with the war of restoration and with liberal reform, in 1855, when the County was extinguished. Subsequently entered in full decline, due to the population who used the stones of the castle to build their homes. Nowadays there are only a few traces of arched doorways and a cistern.

This sculpture of King Dom Afonso Henriques, situated at one end of the Largo João Franco, soon after entering through the gates of the village, was opened in 2001 in the commemorations of the day 24 June municipal holiday in the city of Guimarães. To carry out this work, the author João Cutileiro was inspired by the books of primary statement of the 1940, where the first King of Portugal was represented with an amount.

This baroque manor house is dated from the XVIII century and it has Coat of Arms. On the first floor, its granite balcony with iron railings, can be stand out. Located by the Vouga river, in the heart of Lafões, it is the parishe's siege and rceived its charter from Dom Manuel I in 1514. Its historical centre's traditional architecture is quite harmonious. Its has remarkable civil and religious monuments, namely: the mother hurch (a romanesque-gothic temple, classed as a National Monument), the bridge on the Zela river, the chapel of Saint Frei Gil, the houses of the Távoras and Teles, the Forca Pillory, the old prison and town hall, the church of Misericórdia and the Railway Bridge.

Contemporaneous of the emblematic and neighbour Clérigos Tower, this building of the XVIII century was, for many years, a prison. On its dungeons were men like the Duque da Terceira (a noble), Zé do Telhado (the portuguese version of Robin wood) e Camilo Castelo Branco (XIX century writer), who wrote there one of the most famous romances, “Amor de Perdição”. The main façade divides in three floors, having a central body slightly salient, on which the entrance portal is.
