This library has thirty thousand books, from the most important works to dictionaries and monographies. Its most valuable book is the printing of "Os Lusíadas" by Emílio Biel. There is an exhibitions room where there are temporary educational exibitions, conferences and music. Aside the library there is also a Museum with archaeological artefacts, clothings and regional craftswork.

The Municipa Library of Penafiel has reading rooms, audiovisual areas, a space for the children and the adolescents, an auditorium and a bar.
