The village of Álvaro is part of the network of shale villages. It preserves an admirable religious heritage, which is why it is assumed that, in times gone by, it would have been an important region for religious orders. A typically Alentejo village, it has one of the largest Rossios squares of the Portalegre district, with an amphitheater located in the garden.
