With open arms 133 meters above the level of the Tagus River, the Sanctuary of Cristo Rei offers a privileged view over the municipalities of Lisbon and Almada. And, on sunny days, the gaze can even reach part of Sintra and Sesimbra. Opened in 1959, it was inspired by Christ the Redeemer, located in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It is a rural, fortified manor, with a square plan, crowned with cut merlons, from the reign of King Manuel. The main facade is arranged in three registers, the first marked by the portico and the others by the openings of two rectangular windows. Internally, the ground floor develops into a large hall, covered with a vault with three sections of ribbed warheads; the first floor is occupied by the main hall, covered by a vault with ribbed warheads and adjoining divisions and the following floors are covered by vaults with a lowered dome.

Cacela is known for its fortress built in 1770 by Dom Rodrigo de Noronha. From its battlements, atop the hill, there is a magnificent view over the green waters of the estuary and the long dune system of Praia da Fábrica. There are two restaurants where you can savor oysters, shrimp, and clams.

At lunch the environment is informal but at night the room gets intimate and sophisticated contours. Still, thanks to the simplicity of the decor and the friendliness of the staff, is an unassuming and pleasant space. The menu consists of dishes from traditional base, interpreted in contemporary and creative way for lovers, the tomato soup with egg is a well established option.
