The Bateira Bridge is located in one of the borderline areas of the Bairros parish. It crosses the Paiva River and constitutes a connection to the neighbouring parish of Travanca and to the parish of Cinfães. It has three arches but without the larger central arch.

Built between 1295 and 1305, this monastery, founded by King Dinis, belonged to the Cistercian Order. Heavily damaged by the 1755 earthquake, only the door and the apsidal chapels of the church remain, as well as some sections of the cloisters. The Gothic apse, composed of the main chapel and two apsidal chapels covered by chamfered ribs, is particularly noteworthy. This monastery houses the tombs of King Dinis and his daughter, Dona Maria Afonso.

Permanent exhibition of Madeira embroidery, since the 1860s until about 1930. it owns decorative objects, furniture and clothes from the same period. Here you’ll get to know the story of embroidery making process.

A pedestrian walk that is about 8 km long and has eight stops is offered by the Ecomuseum. During the walk, one gets to know the regional natural and cultural heritage. It departs from the main square at Rates.
