The Algodeia retreat is situated an old factory which makes the large and airy place. The specialities of this restaurant are the fish grilled on charcoal.

Situated in Campo de Ourique, became famous for his steak on the stone. Tiled walls make this particularly cosy restaurant.

The path begins in a tarmac road that climbs towards the Pico Alto (587 m), the highest peak of Santa Maria. Then follows up a thicket of cater toward the Floor of John Thomas. Here you can see some plants of the Laurissilva forest, such as pau-branco, Heather, uva-da-serra, tamujo, Laurel, among others. The current Palace, with an exotic Oriental plan, was built from an 18th century building that imitated a medieval castle. A possession of the Mello e Castro family, it was rented to Gerard DeVisme at the end of the 18th century, who bulit a neogothic manor. In 1856 it was acquired by Francis Cook, who built a new Oriental palace, with revivalist motifs, a true testimony to the romantic architecture. He also ordered the plantation of the Moserrate Park, that combines exotic and local plants, currently an important botanical museum. Nowadays, one may only visit the gardens.

A garden with ruins of the old Convent of Saint Francis and stone symbols that date back to the first Republic (early 20th century). A special note to old stones found in the historic area of town. Nice flowerbeds.
