This lagoon belongs to the set of Seven Lakes that were formed into seven volcanic craters caused by the eruptions that gave rise to the island. The remaining ponds of this set are called: White Pond, Long Pond, shallow lagoon, Lagoa Seca, Black Lagoon and Deep Lagoon. It is located at an average height of 550 meters above sea level.

A Mannerist and Rococo church, built in the 16th century, consisting of a single nave and a lower, narrower chancel. A bell tower and a sacristy are also attached to the facade. Having been burned down several times by pirates and corsairs who landed on the island, it now preserves beautiful altarpieces and paintings inside, by Martim Conrado and Max Romer.

The church of Saint Jorge, the mother church and the church of Our Lady of Conceição are well worth a visit. The Town Hall, the Portão do Mar (Sea's Gate) and the Museum of Religious Art are also imposing.

Located on one of the green hills that surround the city of Funchal, this charming Madeiran Quinta (farmhouse) was built in the 18th century, and was the residence, during the Napoleonic wars, of General Beresford, commander of the British forces on the island. Currently, it has 32 double rooms and nine suites, all overlooking the lush gardens, with more than 800 different species of plants.

Convent founded in 1505 by Dom Jaime IV, fourth Duke of Bragança. It was here that this historical figure isolated himself, consumed by remorse for having had his wife, the Duchess Dona Leonor, killed. The highlight goes to the forest inside, given its richness, which includes artificial lakes, islands, chapels, fountains and corners of great beauty.
