Built by King João IV in 1647, this fort was part of the defensive system of the Tagus River mouth. Over the centuries, it has been used and adapted in various ways, including as a customs post, a youth sailing center, and a youth hostel.

Restaurant opened in 2008, to combine a rustic architecture with a modern ambience. The entrance gives way to a typical Portuguese patio and cozy rooms and fine dining. The menu includes traditional dishes, but leaves room for some more creative dishes.

The castle walls remain, two doors (of the village and the Santarém) and some towers. The old Palace is a monumental residential tower of the 15th century. Plant composed of rectangular main body and two turrets inserted on the wall of the village. The curtain wall that unites the turrets, crowned by way of round, is torn by arched door broken abroad, down inside.
