This house belonged to the General João Sarmento Pimentel that, during the Seven Years War, was in Calais. The name of the house is due to the fact that the soldiers thought it looked like the inhabitants of that village, thus naming it Calaínho. It is a house with a coat of arms with a shield that has the arms of the Sarmentos, Pomentéis, Morais and Ferreiras.

In this place there once existed the church of Saint John that was ruined in the 18th century. Reduced to a chapel, it was bought by the Bank of Portugal and in 1903 they built their siege there. Currently it belongs to the Town Hall.
