The train from Barril beach is a tourist railroad that connects the cais da Pedras D'El Rei to Praia do Barril, Tavira island. Is about one kilometre long and the journey lasts about eight minutes. This is one of the many lagoons on the island of Flores. It belongs to the group of Seven Lagoons that were formed in seven volcanic craters caused by the eruptions that gave rise to the island. The remaining lagoons in this group are Lagoa Branca, Lagoa Comprida, Lagoa Rasa, Lagoa da Lomba, Lagoa Negra and Lagoa Seca. It is surrounded by mountains and Laurissilva forests, which give it a unique environment.

This islet plan with about twenty hectares of extension was classified as Partial Natural Reserve in 1984. The whole island and the adjacent coast were classified as a Special Protection area due to the importance of its avifauna. Here can be found several species, with emphasis on the common tern cagarro, garajau – rosado and angelito. Access is prohibited but, for those who want to see, just go to the viewing point of the tip.

This monument, dated from 1757, was built by the Brotherhood of the Senhor Jesus dos Navegantes and Nossa Senhora da Caridade, from the Esperança Convent. The remarkable glazed tile covering with a consistent iconographical program and the interesting views of the XVIII century Lisbon are worthy of notice.
