Built during the reign of Dom João IV, this fortress still maintains its primitive structure with its scuttles, its patrol walk and its stairways. The barrack, located in the middle of the stronghold and of the two waters rooftop, is very well preserved.

Its construction began in the end of the XVI century, being concluded in the next century. In 1832-33, during the Porto siege, it served as a storing and protection spot. Fortification with defence elements placed at the angles and meant to protect it from flank attacks, with a big defensive capacity. In the beginning of the XIX century, an urban change covered the set with rocks, withdrawing the castle from the mouth.

This small 17th century fortress has a small chapel with 18th century tiles. In 1976 the fortress was given to the Armed Forces social services to be used as a vacation site.

This fortress, built in a strategic point that allowed a dominance of the inlet's entrance, was one one of the most important Portuguese war fortresses. Inspired by the 1500s Italian model, it is one of the better preserved fortresses. A special note to it terraces, domed casemates and the cistern.

At the end of the Promontory, overlooking the North Beach, Sebastian ordered the construction of the fortress of s. Miguel in 1577, in order to defend the pirates ' Cove, rebuilt later by order of Philip II in 1600. The stroke that today presents was commissioned by King John IV, at the time of the restoration of the monarchy. Triangular in shape, has a bastion at each angle, a wall in slope at the bottom and, internally, the Plaza de armas on the 2nd floor and the bunkers that open by several perfect round arches. Currently in ruins, there are only a few traces of the wall. Is located near the Cabo da Roca, the westernmost point of Europe.

This fortress, which constructions was ordered in 1603 by Filipe III, is located in the Ilha do Pessegueiro (Peach Tree Island), to the south of Porto Covo. During the Restauração War (Restoration War) it was attacked several times by the Castilla army and was severely damaged. At the end of the 17th century, during the reign of Dom Pedro II, a new fortress was constructed. It is currently in ruins.

Located about 1 km from Setúbal, the fortress stands overlooking the sea. Without any type of Tower, the fortress ended inside a set of buildings, among which stand out the Governor's residence and the Church. This temple is coated, inside, with tile panels dated from 1736, representing scenes from the life of St. Philip.
