Vila Nova da Barquinha

Vila Nova da Barquinha () is a village and municipality in the region of the Médio Tejo and with about eight thousand inhabitants. It is especially known for its castle of Almourol, one of the best-known Portuguese monuments. Located on a rocky Islet in the river Tagus, a Templar Castle warrant lift by Gualdim Pais, in the 12th century. The municipality is crossed by the rivers Tagus and Zêzere rivers that, since ancient times, constitute a pole of attraction for the fixation of populations due to the ease of obtaining livelihoods human occupation dates back to the Lower Paleolithic, after discovered traces in the town of Ribeira da Atalaia. The cuisine is influenced by the fishing activity of two rivers.
