The gardens have several parts: camellias, flowers and boxwood. They have cedar tunnels with lanes and a water mirror with 2000 m2. The park that surrounds the garden was conceived by the architect Ribeiro Teles. The baroque palace (National Monument), by Nicolau Nasoni, was built in the 18th century.

Occupying a total area of 35 hectares, the Biological Park of Vila Nova de Gaia aims to be a center for environmental education, with a pedagogical purpose that involves understanding the landscape of the region and the contrast between the agroforestry landscape and the urban surroundings. Thus, the visitor can contact with hundreds of animal and plant species in the wild. It also has a recovery center for animals found injured or held in captivity illegally, and a plant nursery.

In a city that usually faces very hot and dry summers, the Piscina Praia, and its four thousand square meters of water, quickly became a reference leisure space in the region. In the warmer months, vacationers can enjoy hydrogymnastics, aqua zumba and recreational and educational activities for children, in addition to being able to relax in the large grassy area. It has changing rooms for a thousand people and 750 parking spaces.
