Inside, we can find the image of Nossa Senhora da Esperança, who accompanied Pedro Álvares Cabral on the journey he discovered Brazil. The 14th century image is found in a side altarpiece and is much appreciated by those who visit this temple, inaugurated in 1940. The bell tower stands out on the main façade of this church, with eclectic and revivalist marks. It is located in the historic center and offers a privileged view of Cova da Beira.

This church, probably built in the 18th century, underwent successive renovations over the centuries, especially in its interior, as can be seen by the diversity of decorative styles. Inside, the nave's ceiling stands out with its neoclassical painting, as does the chancel with 32 coffers depicting hagiographic themes, and the main altarpiece of polychrome and gilded wood in the Joanine Baroque style. The angled side altarpieces, also in polychrome and gilded wood, are in the Rococo style.

In the heart of the town, in a large square, stands this imposing medieval castle, with a quadrangular plan and protected by cylindrical cubes, crowned with battlements, Gothic portals and a tall square keep. This, around 44 meters high, has a hall with a barrel-vaulted ceiling. At the entrance to the fortress, an armored marble tombstone inscribes the record of the castle's foundation, in 1359, by King Pedro I. Housed in an old fish warehouse, the Afurada Heritage Interpretive Center is a space designed to enhance the collective memory of this fishing community.
