Dating back to 1607, this convent was sacked by pirates in 1616 and in 1675. It was then rebuilt in 1725 on the initiative of Friar Agostinho de San Francisco, dating from this time a set of valuable tiles. Currently, it houses the City Council, the Court of the District of Vila do Porto and the Finance and Treasury Department.

The first took place with Susana Dias who, supported by crutches, entered the chapel and laid down on the floor. At the moment of the elevation she wanted to kneel down, but in the end she got up, threw away her crutches and walked around the hermitage loudly proclaiming the miracle. It produced such a strong popular commotion that everyone helped in the construction of this Sanctuary of Senhora da Encarnação.

The track pavement is soft and very well preserved, it's quite a fast track. The Forninho track has five straight lines, three 180º curves and two 90º curves. The obstacles are varied and well achieved. It has two rythmic sessions in the two last straight lines, thus demanding more of the athletes.

In this archive there are about 357 thousand documents, including church registries, court registries, notarial registries, civilian registries and documents of the religious congregations extinct in 1911… There is also a collection of Music and Liturgy and another of Parchments as well as a deposit where the documents that have no moree place in the installations of the archive are kept.
