The site consists of a large granite outcrop whose upper part is covered with rock carvings, specifically simple and complex geometric figures such as concentric circles, lines, "reticulations," and pecking. A semi-excavated, oval-shaped pit is also noteworthy at the eastern end of the carved block.

This castle is located at the top of Cabeço da Penenciada, approximately 681 meters above sea level, between the Angueira and Maçãs rivers. This small fortress, which once served to defend the Sabor River, today serves as a privileged viewpoint over Trás-os-Montes. Some points can be identified: Miranda do Douto (Northeast), Vimioso and Outeiro (North) and Penas Roias and Mogadouro (Southwest).

The Almedina Arch was part of the medieval walls, dating back to the 11th century, as indicated by the Arabic-origin toponym meaning "the city". Today it is the entrance to old Coimbra, where one can see a sculpture from the workshop of João de Ruão. The wall has Roman origins, having been expanded several times. It presents characteristics of Roman, Muslim, Romanesque, Gothic and Manueline architecture.

Consisting of two floors based on a rectangular plant, the facade is disastrous and it highlights the structural elements, whose traces are simple and sober. Today only preserved a part of the Palace before, why are no longer some characteristic elements of this architecture, beyond which are still visible the damage caused by projectiles, in 1810.
