This church is already mentioned in documents dating from 1220, as an integral part of the patronage of the Monastery of Santa Maria de Pombeiro. However, the current building has features of later Gothic influence, even though Romanesque construction was used. The chapel was probably built in the 13th century, when King Mendo de Sousa moved to Vila Verde. Today, evidence of frescoes by Mestre Arnaus can still be seen in the chancel, as weel as the plasterwork decorated with paintings in the nave.

These ruins are part of a noble house of the 1st century and one can see roman bathhouses, tanks for salting the fish, the foundations of a mortuary tower and of a port zone of the roman period. This is one of the rock art sites in the Valley of the Coa, forming a rare set of this type of art, essentially composed of stone engravings dated from the Upper Paleolithic. This core consists of a natural shelter under rock, where we find anthropomorphous motifs very delicate schematics and blemishes that do not define figures painted in red.

The palace, built on the site of the former Fort of Our Lady of the Conception, was acquired in 1868 by the Dukes of Palmela with the intention of constructing a summer residence there. The project is by the English architect Thomas Henry Wyatt. This building, of English revivalist architecture, is clad in stonework. On the main façade, above the door, the Coat of Arms of the Duchess of Palmela's family can be seen.

The monument itself appears in the flower bed of wheat, where recorded six decomposed images of photography which serves as a theme. The water comes out of the monument by a marble fountain carving, conducted throughout the piece.

This 16th-century chapel was built on the site where, according to tradition, Friar Rodrigo and Friar Romano arrived in the 12th century, bringing the image of Our Lady of Nazaré from Mérida. Notable features of this rural chapel include the altarpiece of the main altar, two panels with 16th-century paintings, and remnants of 17th-century tiles.
