The castle was rebuilt by King Dinis in 1310 and underwent restoration work in the 18th century. Of the old fortification, situated atop a hill, only some sections of the wall and towers remain, in addition to the 17th-century fortifications, with escarpments, parapets, and ravelins, built during the Restoration War. The Church of Our Lady of Grace stands out, with its gable façade, framed straight lintel portal, and oculus. This castle is a characteristic example of the border fortresses of lowland regions, with a bastioned system determined by pyrotechnic artillery.

Contemporaneous of the emblematic and neighbour Clérigos Tower, this building of the XVIII century was, for many years, a prison. On its dungeons were men like the Duque da Terceira (a noble), Zé do Telhado (the portuguese version of Robin wood) e Camilo Castelo Branco (XIX century writer), who wrote there one of the most famous romances, “Amor de Perdição”. The main façade divides in three floors, having a central body slightly salient, on which the entrance portal is.

The small village Chapel, dedicated to our Lady of the snows, is a granite building, of rectangular plan oriented Northeast\/Southwest. The front facade has a portal with rectangular frame, flanked by two rectangular-shaped horizontal slots, surmounted by an oculus. The gable is crowned by a cross about acroterion, and the corners are topped by triangular pinnacles with ball. Inside stands the high altar in polychrome and gilded housing religious imaginary. Is celebrated in this Chapel, among others, the mass of the feast in honour of our Lady of the snows.

Initially belonging to a female monastery of the order of St. Benedict, founded in the 12th century. However, the extinction of the monastery, in 1418, and the subsequent construction of a new parish church dictated its gradual downfall. Despite the transformations suffered in the 18TH century, the original factory of this church, of small dimensions, constitutes a good testimony of late Romanesque architecture, as evidenced by its main portal. It is worth noting the dogs, of geometric decoration, their elevations sides and Corbels that accuse the existence of a porch on the South side of the Church.

Built by Cistercian monks between 1178 and 1254, the Monastery consists of three sections: the Church and the North and South Wings, which respectively housed the apartments of the kings and visiting court, and the residences of the Abbot and the monks. The original façade retains the battlements on the side roof, the Gothic portal, and the large side windows. The Church is the largest in Portugal and contains the tombs of King Pedro I and Inês de Castro. Convento de Santa Clara

This Convent assembles a set of buildings of extreme beauty. Although it is a construction from the XV century it is yet what it was built for 500 years ago: a convent of Franciscan nuns. The main chapel of the Nossa Senhora da Conceição church owns a magnificent silver sacrarium. It also has a large glazed tiles carpet from the XVIII century, representing the famous Santa Clara stone monument and, at the entrance, an important gothic tomb from the end of the XV century.

Dated from the 1647 it is an André Soares oeuvre. This is a vast construction with one only nave and main chapel both filled in golden carving. The bell ringer tower was constructed between 1724 and 1727 by Master Domingos Matias and afterwards the main chapel was extended in 1746. It stands out the main altarpiece from the main chapel because it is a fine example from the late Mannerist phase, not only due to its conception, but also due to its decoration.
