The building of the Municipal Library of Caminha dates back to the 18th century and was once a courtroom and a prison. In 1989 it became a cultural space, comprising the library and the Municipal Museum.

Located in the Peniche Fortress, this space arose from the recognition of this fortress as a memorial site and a major symbol of the struggle for freedom on a national scale. Its mission is to preserve the historical memory of the Peniche Fortress and the struggle of the Portuguese people, and in particular, the resistance to the dictatorship, for freedom and democracy. There, visitors can see the cells, visiting rooms, and the recreation yard of the prison, which also served as a residence for Germans and Austrians during World War I.

The rocks of the Coastline from Oporto are the oldest which outcrop in Portugal and constitute a geological heritage of high scientific interest-didactic, the Metamorphic Complex of Foz do Douro, classified as Municipal Natural Heritage. In April 2005 was created a thematic route for dissemination of this designated heritage by "Geological Tour of Foz do Douro", signaled with nine panels of information addressed to the general public.
