Its construction started in the end of the 14th century and was only completed a few centuries later. In the 17th century was the subject of profound renovation works. The ground floor consists of a porch supported by Gothic arches and the piano nobile has Bay Windows topped by triangular pediments interrupted by armilares balls and shields. Currently, it houses the Museum of Modern primitive art.

A church with a longitudinal plan and three manuelin style naves, with some gothic influence. Even though the typical structure and decoration are preserved in the main chapel, modifications of the 1800's are visible in the exterior, as well as even later modifications in the interior. One should notice the lateral wainscots and the triumphal arch with pattern tiles, dating back to the end of the 17th century.

The building of the old Clube dos Ingleses (English Club) has two floors. The upstairs floor has balcony windows with iron bars ended by triangular and curved forms’ frontons. The main front opens to the ancient garden with three curved doors. Inside the building the hall with six arches, based on pillars, the stucco decoration and the paintings on the ceiling stand out.

After the reconquest, at the end of the 13th century, there was a military reorganization, of which this set of medieval nuclei with the respective walls is part. This village knew two urban extensions, the second being, in the 16th century, the one that brought an increase in construction. It was at this time that, for example, the Ducal Palace was built. Fortunately, this expansion was taken care of, having Terreiro do Paço as a starting point.

The Sabor River originates in the Serra de Gamoneda (Montes de León), in the Spanish province of Zamora, at around 1600 meters above sea level, then runs for more than a hundred kilometers in Trás-os-Montes and ends up flowing into the Douro River, close to Moncorvo Tower. Located in the Serra de Montejunto, this town has Neolithic remains until the 12th century, and this permanence is documented with protohistoric, prehistoric and Roman remains. The old houses from the 17th to the 19th century, with exterior staircases and porched balconies, are worth a visit. In Serra de Montejunto, the ruins of a convent and the Chapel of Senhora das Neves stand out.
