This church stands out for its remarkable tile revestment and for its interest regarding the religious art, golden carvings and tiles. The high altar is revested by a rare pattern of the 17th century and the nave with tile panels with stories of the 18th century. The sacrarium of the high altar, carved, was made in 1731 by Francisco Machado. A special note, in the high altar, to the representation of Saint Anthony (centre), Saint Bento and Saint Peter, to the right, Saint John and Benedictine nun to the left. The remaining altars represent the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

Founded in the 13th century by the abbot of Alcobaça, the Monastery of Santa Maria de Coz was one of the most important monastic complexes in the region and the most important monastery of the female branch of the Cistercian Order.
