The headquarters of the Aveiro’s Santa Casa da Misericórdia, an excellent artistic ensemble of the Portuguese mannerism, is almost exclusively at the service of the city culture, being an authentic “museological nucleus” with guided visits. The imposing Old Se is raised at the square centre and, around it are several XVII, XVIII and XIX century constructions. It is the place where traditionally takes place the students’ serenade which marks the beginning of the Queima das Fitas (traditional students’ weekly party).

The primitive temple dedicated to Nossa Senhora da Serra, subsists on 18TH century façade, a Gothic inscription. This church presents a set of 16th century and 17th century elements of great interest. Of the acquis of the Church points out the 16th-century triptych.
