The result of a protocol signed between the City Council and the University of the Azores, this museum is organized with a central space, the Municipal Museum, and three museum centers integrated into the community: the Olaria museum center, the Forno de Loiça and the Fábrica da Luz museum center. Here you can see pottery objects, ceramics, learn about traditional arts and crafts and appreciate a collection of traditional vessels from the Azores. It also works as a research center in the areas of Archaeology, Ethnography and History.

The set is formed by a tower, the Casa do Despacho and Clérigos Church. This monument is the maximum exponent of the Porto’s baroque style. Although it is less known than the Clérigos Tower, the Clérigos Church was built first, between 1732 and 1750. It is a Nasoni’s typical construction. Inside, the golden carving and the baroque, rococo and neoclassic pelmets stand out. This was the first big work by Nasoni and the one which made him famous. This author would never leave the Porto city and died here.

Santa Maria Church is placed in a square with old buildings from which we stand out the Torrinha house, the former building for the City Hall and another Manueline building with a Coat of Arms on the door. It still preserves the apse structure, the porch, the baroque altars and the “Tree of Life” represented on a lateral chapel. It has undergone some transformations on the 15th, 16th, 17th and 19th centuries and it was restore in 1960. Fortified settlement called Pedregalho, located to the southwest of the village of Padornelos. Are still visible remains of at least two rows of walls on the South side identified an alignment of wall with about ten meters, whose core was filled in Earth and rock chick. It is believed that this town may have been abandoned during the iron age, whose occupation was in a sheltered area, where today lies the old core of the village of Padornelos whose name is "City".

The Clock Tower was likely built in the late 16th or early 17th century, as part of the reorganization of the Praça do Município urban area. This building was erected near a group of buildings representing political, administrative, judicial, and economic power. Reusing an old city wall tower, it began to mark the boundary of Praça do Município and became one of Mértola's emblematic elements. In 1896, the original clock was replaced by a more recent one that continues to keep time in Vila Velha to this day.
