The monastery was originally founded by Dona Mor Dias in 1283. In the 14th century, Clement V granted permission to Dona Isabel of Aragon to found a new monastery, which was established on the same site, with the renovation and expansion of the old buildings. The village of Alvito da Beira is believed to be of Moorish origin. According to historians, it was the Arabs who introduced the first olive groves to the region. These reached such a size that by the early 20th century, there were 10 olive presses in the parish. Small walls were built to protect the olive trees, of which traces still remain. A village located in a cove of the Castelo de Bode reservoir. It is one of the most typical and picturesque villages in central Portugal. The chapel of Veral, dedicated to s. Martinho, rectangular plant East\/West oriented, are deployed within a walled courtyard. The granite walls are partially covered with plaster and painted white. The main façade has a rectangular portal, flanked by two horizontal slots, surmounted by inscriptions alluding to rebuilding this area in the 19th century. Inside this Chapel, divided by an arch, stands the high altar and two side altars in polychrome and gilded carvings, religious imaginary housing. This is the chapel which is celebrated the mass of the feast in honour of s. Martinho.
