The citadel served as a political prison from the 18th to the 20th centuries. This space houses the National Museum of Resistance and Freedom.

It features an L-shaped floor plan, with two large facades and two turrets topped by balustrades and pinnacles. Inside, the rooms boast neoclassical décor. The palace, despite being on private property dedicated to the production of one of the region's most renowned Alvarinho wines, is open to visitors.

Housed in an early 20th-century building, the former residence of the writer who gives it its name, this museum is essentially regional in character, featuring very heterogeneous collections and temporary exhibitions.
