This village, located by the Mondego river, is of the 12th century. In 1514 it was given a charter by Dom Manuel. Located in the vineyards region of the Beiras, it has a rural tourism space, the House of Abreu Madeira, that belongs to the Routes of the Dão Wines. A special note to the church, with a joanine facade, and to a restored pillory. Nearby, there is the Thermae of Urgeiriça.

The county seat, the town of Crato, was built on the ruins of an important city, perhaps Carthaginian, and had a charter in 1232. There are several archaeological monuments in this area. The keep and walls remain of the old castle (Property of Public Interest). Traditional activities include woodworking, stonework and cork work. The region's cuisine is rich and varied.

This hill belongs to the Old Massif and is placed between the Larouco, Cabreira and Marão mountains. To the north, the hill separates the basins of the Cávado and Tâmega rivers. It is also known by the name of Serra as Alturas (Hill of the Heights), it is 8 km long and it is located on the northwest of the Trás-os-Montes region. The Carvalhelhos springs are located there.
