Consists of two distinct parts: the Casa de Cima or Casa do Arco, and the Casa de Baixo or Casa da Torre. The Palácio de Sub-Ripas has a magnificent Manueline portal dating from the first half of the sixteenth century. The branch also notable for dozens of bas-reliefs bearing exterior walls.

In this pleasant green area we find a small fishing port and a natural pool. Classified as a Natural Reserve, is surrounded by volcanic rocks, protecting holidaymakers from the wind. This is where lies the chapel of our Lady of the angels, the famous place where Christopher Columbus stopped to pray during the return voyage of the discovery of America in 1493.

Situated on the right bank of the River Douro, three kilometres from its mouth, the marina do Freixo serves those who use the river for recreation, work, tourism or sport. Has winch until 10 tons, place for 78 vessels to 16 meters long, as well as restaurant, changing rooms and a Yacht Club.

In the village with the same name, is hidden Praia da Figueira. Although there are plates, automobile access is limited, duly signposted. From a certain point, there is a narrow path to a few meters to the beach. This is flat, without oscillations and very quiet. Looking at the top of the cliff can be seen traces of a 16th-century fortification. Great for sea baths.
