Viana do Alentejo

Originally called "Viana de a par de Alvito," the town was repopulated in the 13th century by King Gil Martins. In 1313, King Dinis granted it a charter and privileges and ordered the construction of the castle, which, rebuilt by King João II, still retains the characteristics of the original design. It is a pentagonal monument with cylindrical towers with cruciform arrow slits at its corners.

A former monastery founded in 1725 to serve as a hospital and hostel for the friars of the Third Order who used the thermal baths. The convent area consists of the temple, cloister, and monastic outbuildings. Of the former monastery, only the church remains, with the interior featuring tiles and the image of the Virgin and Child. It has a working carillon and is occasionally open for classical music and traditional regional music concerts.

The Águas Livres Aqueduct is considered to be one of the greatest engineering works and one of the rare exemplars of the water supply systems of the XVIII century. Its construction was ordered in 1732 by Dom João V. The extension of the aqueduct is of about 58 km. The aqueduct also owns the largest stone pointed arch of the world, with 62,29 meters s height and 28,86 meters width.

This Romanesque church was founded in the 12th century. It is also known as the Church of Our Lady of the Conception or the Church of the Acronyms due to its extraordinary carving of signs, or stonemason marks. The granite façade features a pointed arch portal with sculpted capitals. The interior has a single nave covered with a Hispano-Arabic ceiling. It is the only temple of the Premonstratensian (Augustinian) order in Portugal.
