O Queijo Serra da Estrela, vulgarmente chamado Queijo da Serra, é o mais antigo dos queijos portugueses, produzido desde o século XII. É um queijo curado, de pasta semi-mole e amanteigada de cor branca ou amarela, produzido de forma tradicional a partir do leite de ovelha, na região da Serra da Estrela. The Eduardo Ferreira & Filhos liqueur factory, better known as "Mulher de Capote", produces the famous typical liqueurs of São Miguel. Passion fruit, pineapple, banana and lemon are some of the fruit liqueurs produced. You can also find passion fruit brandy, wine and cream and anise liqueurs.

For a long time, São Miguel Island was the only place in Europe where tea was manufactured. Fábrica de Chá Porto Formoso was founded by Amâncio Machado Faria e Maia and operated between the 1920s and the 1980s. Recently, it has been undergoing a recovery process. Visitors can enjoy the estate's vast panoramic gardens, visit the museum space and the tea factory itself. Afterwards, they can relax and taste one of the factory's specialties in the tea room.
