Housed in the former "Royal House" (so named because it was home to Queen Saint Isabel), this museum worked as a hospital for many years. In 1861, it underwent rehabilitation works, overseen by the engineer Pedro José Pezarat, and began serving as accommodation for the institution's directors and the royal family. In 1992, it underwent further renovations, transforming it into a museum.

In its time, it was one of the largest Cistercian monasteries in Portugal, the grantee of vast lands around it, with the obligation to cultivate and populate them. Modernist building built between 1959 and 1961, getting up and running here the Guild of the crop until 1978. Since then, I've worked in this building an agricultural cooperative, a Union of cooperatives and, until now, a tax office.
