An example of 18th-century European military architecture, built by King José I on the site of a former fort. This bastioned fort sits on an impressive rocky hill. Its wide spaces, interplay of lines and volumes lend it power and military effectiveness. Its distinctive feature is the Governor's residence, an unusual building within the fort's architectural context. It is also known as Lippe Fortress, named after the architect who proposed its construction. Inside, there is a chapel honoring Our Lady of Grace.

The Church consists of two volumes and by a nave, chancel and vestry. On the facade can be seen two Windows of lintel rectum and, Center, on the pediment are the Crown and the Royal arms. Inside, one of the highlights is the chancel, late-Baroque style. The hospital consists of two floors, and in the second, you can admire a tile Panel commemorating the founding of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Almeida. The interior still preserves the mortuary and a former Fund-raiser, who had direct access to the Church.

Located close to the Double Doors of Santo António, this building, with Baroque characteristics, impresses with its architecture with a long and narrow rectangular plant, distributed over two floors with transversal, vaulted barracks and a fireplace. The monument was built in the 18th century by the Count of Lippe, a German military and politician who served in the Portuguese Army, and functioned as an Infantry Barracks. Featuring a royal coat of arms on the façade, the Quartel das Esquadras is the final object of a set of infantry barracks with the same typology, usually visible in the Alentejo squares.

The Companhia das Lezírias is famous for its wines and its horse breeding. Its restaurant is also quite appreciated with fine dishes of the Ribatejo region. With a philosophy based on haute cuisine and the sea as its main inspiration, Fortaleza do Guincho offers a daring incursion into traditional gastronomy. In 2001, the restaurant, with a strong influence of haute cuisine, won its first Michelin star that it still holds today.
