Right at the beginning the trail passes through small agricultural fields until the path of Ribeira de Nossa Senhora, a cluster of houses, many of them abandoned, located across the river that accompanies the path. After the route is developed along the coast, passing through the sand Bay, the only sandy beach of the island.

The trail descends to Fajã da Praia do Norte, a fajã formed initially by debris and later by lava, with the occurrence of eruption of Cabeço do Fogo. The fajã is marked by the presence of the Ribeira de Adam, along which the trail continues. A little further you will find praia da fajã, recommended by locals for the practice of surf. This route passes in an area classified as a site of Community interest and Special protection area.

The end is near Mourricão mill, passing by the Church.

In 1988, the Praia Grande was classified a "Praia Dourada” (meaning golden beach) by the Ministry of the Environment. To highlight the event, a walking trail is proposed to all that visit the beach. The tour is designed so that visitors can best enjoy and appreciate the landscape and existing natural heritage. The trail is split into two walking paths, each around two kilometers long. These are: the trilho nascente (rising sun trail) and the trilho poente (setting sun trail).
